Do I Need a Medical Bed with a Foam or Air Mattress?
This is an important question and normally foam mattress beds are for patients
and people getting out of bed and moving around on their own and air mattress
beds are for patients confined to a bed or wheelchair the majority of the day.
Air mattresses are normally used for patients at risk of getting bed sores,
skin ulcers and pressure wounds or for patients that already have them.
Infected bed sores and skin ulcers are the #1 reason people are re-admitted
into a hospital.
What is the Difference Between "Full Electric" and "Semi Electric" hospital beds?
Hospital beds come in a variety of types, mainly "semi electric"
and "full electric". "Full electric" hospital beds have 3 functions
including head up and down, foot up and down and have a motor
to help the entire bed go up and down. The bed up and down feature
is to help care givers from bending over or cranking a bed to care for
patient and is main reason people like "full electric hospital beds".
These can also be referred to as "adjustable hospital beds" because
they can be adjusted by remote control feature or by rail controls.
"Semi electric" hospital beds are 2 function including (1) head up
and down and (2) foot up and down. The hospital bed uses a crank to
go up and down and this can be hard on caregivers. In some
cases however there is not a care giver for the patient and these
beds work fine.
Although we can sell semi electric beds the main beds we sell are full electric. There are "residential grade" beds for
home use and also "commercial grade" beds that can be used
in homes also providing the best in medical bed quality.
The Best Hospital Bed for Home Use Depends on the (1) What the Patient Needs (2) Price / Budget (3) Where Bed is Going
If a patient is on a second or third floor or in an area that
is hard to get a steel frame bed then the Invacare #5410 full electric hospital bed is a good choice. It is cheap to ship and
it comes in 4 boxes that allow the bed to easily be assembled
and put together in tight quarters.
The Invacare 5410 full electric hospital bed is also a good choice
for someone looking for a brand new bed and a bed with a 1 year warranty and cheap shipping costs. Commercial grade beds from
Hill Rom and Stryker are nice to have but can be expensive to ship
especially if you are far from a distribution bed warehouse location.
Difference between Hill Rom Advance and Invacare 5410 hospital bed.
The #1 selling hospital bed we have for home use is the Hill Rom Advance Series Hospital Bed. It is one of the most reliable hospital beds built and it is a 6 function motorized bed with a "chair position".
"Hill Rom" is the industry leader in the hospital bed market in the USA
and their beds are the most common to find with Stryker brand beds being right
behind and also providing commercial grade hospital beds for home use.
Hill Rom Advance Series Hospital Bed
The Advance Series bed has full controls on both rails and a "nurses station"
with controls at the foot of the bed. It is a solid steel frame bed with
2 side rails on each side and the ability for the rails to tuck completely
under the bed making it easy to patients to move in from a wheelchair.
The Hill Rom and Stryker beds can be tipped sideways to get in
through a door frame and normally a few blankets and 2 people
can get the bed inside a ready for a residential patient.
Stryker Secure 1 Hospital Bed - good for home or medical use.
Stryker makes a Stryker Secure 1 bed which is excellent for home
use and also a Secure 2 hospital bed with round and square rails.
Both beds are nice but we find that the Secure 2 round rail bed
is better for home use and the square rail bed is better for hospital use.
What About Beds with Air Flow Mattress for Patients with Bed Sores?
Best 2 hospital bed models to treat and prevent bed sores shown in video above.
The Hill Rom P1900 "Totalcare Sport" bed and Hill Rom P3200 "Versacare bed" with built in air mattress systems.
The first bed is the Hill Rom P1900 Treatment bed that comes with
an air flow mattress system and also the ability to sit into a fill chair
position. The mattress has 6 connection points to the bed and the air
system will help prevent bed sore for patients and allow them to "sit
down" to get into bed.
The second bed is the Hill Rom P1900 TotalCare SPORT bed - this
bed has 16 connection port to mattress and includes a "low air loss"
mattress upgrade, an auto patient rotation feature that is very popular
and also "percussion and vibration" features which also help
break up flem in bed ridden patients. These are some of the best ICU -
Intensive care beds in the world and they can be used in homes
and in hospitals and medical centers.
What is Price or Cost of Hospital Beds?
When it comes time to buying a hospital bed for home or residential
use price or cost of the bed is a deciding factor in most cases.
The reason refurbished hospital beds from Hill Rom and Stryker
are popular is because they cost the same or less than new residential
beds from Drive, Patriot, Invacare and others yet offer durability and
a much more solid frame.
